History of the St. Joseph’s Club
The club originally began under the name “San Giuseppe Society” on August 13th, 1926. It was formed to provide a social forum for Italian immigrants living in the parishes of All Saints and St. Anthony’s of Padua. The St. Joseph’s Club was one of the first Italian American clubs in the City of Chicago to possess it’s owe property. This property was purchased at 608 W. 26th. St. They called this location home until a few members with a vision purchased the old “Hickory Pit” in 1989. The new location, 2724 S. Union has been our home ever since and it’s in the heart of Bridgeport in the 11th. Ward.
The St. Joseph’s Club membership has risen to an all time high of 120 members. We are very proud to say that we have 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th generation families involved with the St. Joseph’s Club.
Prayer to Saint Joseph
Oh St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong,
and so prompt before the throne of God.
We place you all our interests and desires.
Oh St. Joseph, do assist us by your powerful intercession
and obtain for us from your Divine Son, all spiritual blessings,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
